Hell in a Cell 2019 — Review & Grades — #MyOpinion
So with only 4 matches advertised for the event, I was pretty excited for the PPV as it may would have contain surprise last minute first time ever matches. Finally I woke up on time after a very long time and watch all the matches from start till the very end..here is my short review and grades for the match:
Raw Women’s Championship Hell in a Cell Match: Becky Lynch Vs Sasha Banks
OMG….!!! That was one hell of a start for Hell in a Cell PPV. From the very start the crowd was into the match and that was because of the amazing build of this match. Sasha dominating the match at first after a suplex on the ramp and then later damaging Becky’s left arm in between the cage door was brutal. The match was full of sweet spots and innovative moves which was a beautiful surprise for everyone. It never felt as it was a women’s division match as the two women went full length to give the crowd a hell of a starter. Tables, ladders, chairs (lots and lots of), kendo sticks and what not was used in this match and it all payed off as crowd was seen chanting “THIS IS AWESOME”. It would have been a 5 star match for me if the ending would have been different. As Sasha already had an experience of HELL before and that was evident from the fact that she was using the environment so well, it would have made sense making her the champ. But taking nothing away from them, this was one of the classics and I will give this a 4.5 ♥ rating for a brutal and awesome match.
Roman Reigns & Daniel Bryans Vs Eric Rowen & Luke Harper
So the match was made a Tornado Tag to make it more hardcore I guess or to give all four superstars more ring time at the same time. Whatever the reason maybe, it didn’t serve the purpose according to me. We have seen better tag team matches than this and this was a TORNADO tag, still it was not impressive. Other than the Daniel reversing the powerbomb to the Table by hurricanrana to Harper and then Reigns spearing Rowen through the table, there were no other spots to discuss about. The conclusion of the match saw a good team work among Reigns and Bryan as it started with a super man punch followed with high knee and ended with a spear to Rowan. I guess the only purpose of this match was to turn Bryan face again as Reigns and Bryan shared a hug after the match. For the hug at the end, I will give it a 3 ♥ rating.
Randy Orton Vs Ali
So we get this match because of the pre-show discussion where Ali discussed about his injury which led him out of action and pushed Kofi Kingston. It was a clear indication that WWE will be using these matches as fillers as only four matches were advertised for the event. It was a pretty average match with Randy dominating most of the match and Ali trying to be the underdog. There was a OMG moment in this match where Ali reversed the RKO with a handstand and that was a moment nobody was ready for. I called for the Reverse 450 — RKO or Face Buster — RKO to end the match and WWE went with the latter. So I will give this match a 3 ♥ rating, extra .5 for reversing that RKO.
Women’s Tag Team Championship: Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross Vs Kabuki Warriors
So finally Asuka and Kairi Sane defeated Alexa and Nikki to become the tag team champions and now maybe they can make the titles important again. The ICONICS failed, Alexa and Nikki had the momentum earlier but they also failed, but these two have the charisma to bring the title back to the main event. We have not seen any good women’s tag team title defenses in the past and now with these two in the picture, I see good things for the women’s tag team division. Also the way they worked in the match, it cemented them as strong heels and they should definitely carry forward this momentum. 3 ♥ for a new and fresh start to the women’s tag team titles reign.
Viking Raiders & Braun Strowman Vs The O.C.
I thought that was enough, but I was very wrong. It was an another regular weekly match at a PPV event with nothing to lose or gain. I could not believe that they were using AJ Styles at this event but still couldn’t think of an opponent for his US title defense, total waste of time. The only reason for this match was to set a base for tomorrow night’s RAW as it will contain a message from Gypsy King Tyson Fury and they wanted to show that Strowman is ready for him. The match ended in a no disqualification after every member of the O.C started attacking Strowman at the same time. Strowman punched Styles in face and then mocked the Gypsy King. Styles selling the knockout was fun to watch. 2.5 ♥ for this build towards Tyson Fury vs Braun Strowman at Crown Jewel.
Chad Gable Vs King Corbin
With AEW in the market, NXT improving day by day and now even Raw and Smackdown performing better, I guess WWE was not happy that everything is going right and they decided to ruin there PPV. There was no need of this match on this PPV as it had nothing new to showcase. The show went straight downhill after a spectacular opener, thanks to all the repeated matches. I don’e have any words for this as even the ending to this match was disastrous with a roll up victory. If this was going to be the end…why even put this match at a PPV??? Very disappointed with this…2 ♥ for the efforts put by the wrestlers.
Smackdown Women’s Championship: Bayley Vs Charlotte Flair
So after turning Bayley heel and instead of building this character they decided to let her lose the title to Charlotte Flair? I was even confused with Bayley crying after the match as she was supposed to be the HEEL in this and instead of attacking Charlotte or showing frustration, she started crying which made no sense to me. Another big let down from WWE as this match could have been amazing since both athletes are too good, but it turned out to be a normal match. 2.5 ♥ for this another upset.
Universal Championship Hell in a Cell Match: Seth Rollins Vs The “Fiend” Bray Wyatt
As usual Fiend’s entry was lit but the setup for the match was not. WWE was not fully satisfied with the red cage so they decided to put red lights for the match. The Fiend was unstoppable in the match as even after dozens of Curb Stomp, he kicked out on just 1. In order to stop the Fiend, Seth started using chairs, ladders, kendo sticks etc. He even hit him on the head with the chair and still Fiend kicked out on 1. He stuck the chair in between the ladder and then hit the ladder with a chair, still the Fiend didn’t lose. Ultimately Seth started pilling everything on his head and started hitting him with the toolbox. When even this trick failed, he hit him in that pile of chairs and ladders with a freaking hammer and guess what happened after that..the match was disqualified!!! Like WTF…why would they do this to the audience? Building Fiend’s character so much and then not even ending the match doesn’t make any sense. I thought that the level of stupidity can’t go further down but I was wrong, after the match when Fiend was about to be taken on the stretcher, he suddenly attacked Seth with a mandible claw and then gave him Sister Abigail on the concrete floor and left the arena. If he was all okay, then why didn’t he act earlier..it made no sense to me..totally disappointed. Even the “AEW” and “REFUND” chants started and show ended with loudest of the BOOS. Total waste..I will give this a 1 ♥ for total disappointment. With an average of 2.6 ♥, this was the worst PPV of the year for me.
