5 Reasons Why “Dastaan-E-Om Shanti Om” is the greatest bollywood video song ever made..! #MyOpinion
So, actually I was playing and viewing this song from the past few weeks and I realized that I am still in love with this track back from 2003. I thought why not do a good deed and share this song with everyone and get their opinion on this one. This is one of the greatest video song Bollywood has ever made according to me, which you would have understood from the very long and explanatory title. So for those who are not familiar with this one, please go and checkout this amazing song at T-Series Youtube Channel : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ymuNkKuToao . But if you really wish to understand the awesomeness of this video song, you need to watch “Om Shanti Om” movie as the whole story of the movie is presented in this 6–7 minutes of play.
1. It has Shah Rukh Khan in it….!
Do you seriously need any other reason to watch this song?? I know he is going through a tough time business-wise as his movies are not grossing as per the expectations but nobody can deny the fact that he is one of the finest in terms of performance. He performed brilliantly in the movie but I am here to discuss his performance in this very song. In this song, he is actually narrating his whole life story (life story in movie) to whoever who will listen and wants everyone to know what went wrong the last time(watch movie you will get this one). His expressions, his way of telling things, his performance everything was exceptional in this one. He came out as one of the finest narrators anybody would have ever seen in a while. Last but definitely not the least, you will fall in love with his dashing looks in this one ♥.
2. The Whole Act
If you are considering watching this movie then you can skip this part as it will contain spoilers. So if you are still reading this that means either you have already watched this movie or you don’t give a sh!t about what I am saying :-D So the backstory is, Mukesh Mehra(Arjun Rampal) killed Shanti by trapping her in the same set where they were in the song after he set it on fire. Om Prakash(SRK as junior artist) reaches there just in time to save her but is unable to save her due to Mukesh’s guards and ultimately both of them are killed due to fiery explosion. SRK is reincarnated as Om Kapoor(famous movie star) and later remembers everything related to his earlier life. So this stage was setup to ultimately scare Mukesh that Shanti’s ghost is haunting him and to make him admit to those sins which he has committed. The same scenes from previous life were created beautifully in the song with moving props and whole story is told within no time, hats off to Farah Khan for such a sequence.
3. Shaan’s Voice & Vishal-Shekhar’s Music Combo
Back in time, actors had specific singers on which they used to do lip sync as it looked believable. For a period of time, I used to believe that actors themselves sing their songs as there was not much difference in their voices while acting and singing. For SRK, both Shaan and Sonu Nigam bring the best out of him. Shaan did full justice to this song as he gave the performance of his lifetime as this song required that intensity and had various high-low points and variations which were done brilliantly by him. What added cherry on the cake was the music provided by Vishal-Shekhar as it had that thriller vibe which increased the intensity of this song. It was a roller coaster ride as audiences were kept on the edge of their seats for the next scenes and they could connect to that due to the amazing music score.
4. Javed Akhtar at it’s best..!
The core of this song was it’s lyrics and I have to say hats off to Akhtar sahab for this amazing masterpiece. The original song duration is 7:08 and I remember each and every lyric of this song, this is what music was back then. Right now, songs are around 2–3 minutes with one catchy line that also fades away with time but that is not the case with this one. The opening line is “Sunne walo…suno aisa bhi hota hai…dil deta hai jo…vo jaan bhi khota hai”, which refers to the fact that OM tried to save Shanti and died in that process which immediately connected with the audience. Also the word “Dastan” refers to story which was beautifully used at various points with a different high music point which gave more emphasis on this very word which was brilliant according to me.
5. The Scary Dose
The whole point of this act was to scare Mukesh which was portrayed greatly by Arjun Rampal as he was nervous after watching all those events happening in front of him in the act. Also, introducing Sandy (Deepika) in front of Mukesh as a ghost during the song was a brilliant move as Mukesh fell for it and was seen following Sandy. During the scenes involving Sandy music was light and scary which was a perfect switch from a thriller to horror genre. Overall it also sets the stage for climax as Sandy was seen bleeding at last so Mukesh understood that it was a trick to deceive him.
